A Georgia man’s Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award got a new signature Thursday when President Donald Trump crossed out former President Joe Biden’s name and signed it himself during a stop at a Georgia restaurant.
The moment went viral immediately.
Trump was visiting the Peach State to campaign for Republicans in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District special election when he stopped at a Rome restaurant, shaking hands with workers and the crowd.
A man approached him with the certificate — awarded to volunteers who complete 4,000 hours of community service — and made his request plain.
” I don’t want his name on there,” the man told Trump. “Can you help me out?”
Trump happily signed the award with a Sharpie. But first, he made a point of explaining why Biden’s signature was illegitimate.
“And mine’s not an autopen,” Trump said. “His is. That’s an autopen signature. See that? You know, that’s an autopen.”
“That’s an autopen signature. You think he signed that? He didn’t sign that. I don’t know how he did that. It’s insulting, when you think about it.”
After finishing, Trump handed the certificate back.
“Now you have a real lifetime achievement award,” he said.
Biden denied using an autopen to sign official documents after it became a major controversy during his final months in office.
“I made the decisions,” Biden said, and said claims that his staff was running the White House were “ridiculous and false.”
Congressional Republicans, led by House Oversight Chairman James Comer, launched investigations into the matter.
Trump’s Georgia stop was part of a broader midterm push. He endorsed district attorney Clay Fuller for former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s vacated seat. Fuller called Trump’s endorsement “rocket fuel” for his campaign.
The 14th District seat opened when Greene stepped down in January, citing disillusionment with Trump after he called her a “traitor.”
Trump said Thursday he has moved on, focusing his support on Fuller and other candidates pledging to maintain an America First agenda.
