Current Secretary of State Marco Rubio has taken on a lot of responsibility since joining the Trump administration.
But is Rubio considering dipping his toes into something not related to politics — like the NFL?
Don’t count on it.
Despite countless rumors that Rubio should consider a leadership role with the NFL in light of the number of head coaching vacancies that have surfaced this week, Rubio declared that he’s not going anywhere — for now.
Rubio responded after dozens of memes flooded social with potential new jobs or responsibilities that President Donald Trump might ask Rubio to take on in addition to his roles as the country’s top diplomat.
“I do not normally respond to online rumors but feel the need to do so at this moment,” Rubio said in his own X post.
“I will not be a candidate for the currently vacant HC and GM positions with the Miami Dolphins. While you never know what the future may bring right now my focus must remain on global events and also the precious archives of the United States of America. Thank you.”

Rubio, who is currently the acting National Security Adviser in addition to holding the top post at the United States Department of State, was responding to viral memes suggesting he’d be put in charge of everything from the state of Minnesota to the nation of Venezuela.
Despite the jack-of-all-trades style, Rubio clarified that he has no intention of trading his political responsibilities for a spot in the NFL front office.
This includes the vacant roles within the Miami Dolphins after Rubio’s hometown team parted ways Thursday with Mike McDaniel following a four-season stint, leaving both the head coach and general manager positions up for grabs.
Fellow Republican Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-MI) also joined in on the barbs, asking Rubio to come join his Detroit Lions in a leadership role.
Would you consider being OC with the @Lions ??? We need someone with the huevos to match Dan Campbell!#OnePride https://t.co/cAUey7MGnF

Rubio, who has been knee-deep in critical Trump administration moves — including the Russia/Ukraine war, the Israel/Gaza conflict, and the recent capture of Venezuela President Nicholas Maduro — is currently the acting National Security Adviser.
Rubio is also considered a top candidate to run for president in 2028.
However, like the NFL stints, Rubio has ruled out running for president in 2028 if Vice President JD Vance seeks the Republican nomination.
“If JD Vance runs for president, he’s going to be our nominee, and I’ll be one of the first people to support him,” Rubio told Vanity Fair in December.
Rubio has maintained his focus is on serving as secretary of state through the end of Trump’s term.
“I want to do this job, as long as the president allows me to do it, and stay in that job, which would keep me here all the way through January of 2028,” Rubio said.
“I believe that if I am able to be here through the duration of this presidency — and we get things done at the pace that we’ve been doing the last six months — I’ll be able to look back at my time in public service and say, ‘I made a difference, I had an impact, and I served my country in a very positive way.’”
Rubio, who ran for president in 2016, did not completely shut the door to a future White House bid.
“You never know what the future holds. You never rule things out or anything, because you just don’t know. Things change very quickly,” he said.
