Letitia James’ strange George Soros connection

Billionaire liberal megadonor George Soros and his family have poured more than $71,000 into New York Attorney General Letitia James’ campaign coffers since 2019, according to state campaign finance records.

The direct donations do not include indirect support James receives through other organizations that Soros funds. His Open Society Foundation network transferred $23.7 million to the Working Families Party since 2016 through its fundraising arm Working Families Organization Inc. The Soros family also donated $865,000 directly to the party’s New York affiliate since 2018.

As far as direct cash, the Soros family contributed $31,000 toward James’ 2026 campaign. George Soros donated $18,000 in July 2024, while his daughter-in-law Jennifer Allan Soros gave $13,000 in May. The family provided another $40,000 to James across earlier campaign cycles dating back to 2019.

Michael Henry, the Republican running against James in 2026, blasted the donations.

“George Soros has spent years financing the radical left’s most extreme projects, and the outcome is almost always the same: instability and disorder that is destroying our state,” Henry said. “We saw it with [Manhattan District Attorney] Alvin Bragg, so no one should be surprised that [Soros] is heavily backing Letitia James’ ideological crusades and political vendettas that put New Yorkers’ safety on the back burner. When the same donor who funds chaos underwrites New York’s top law enforcement office, the results speak for themselves.”

James gained national attention pursuing lawsuits and criminal cases against President Donald Trump.

James’ case alleged Trump engaged in fraud by exaggerating his net worth for decades on loan applications. A state court ordered Trump to pay more than $500 million in fines, but a successful appeal threw out the penalties in August. The case remains ongoing.

President Trump has repeatedly criticized Soros and his son Alex, who chairs the Open Society Foundations board.

Trump called for their indictment under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act in August. He accused Soros and “his group of psychopaths” of funding anti-Israel activists and violent protests.

“We’re not going to let these lunatics rip America apart anymore,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The far-Left Open Society Foundations describes itself as “the world’s largest private funder of independent groups working for justice, democratic governance, and human rights.” Soros has donated billions of his personal fortune to fund the foundation since 1984.
