Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) said fellow Democrat Kamala Harris’ life is in danger in a bizarre rant captured on video yesterday.
Omar’s comments came the day after Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk was fatally shot during a TPUSA “Prove Me Wrong” event at Utah Valley University.
In a now viral interview, Omar spun Kirk’s tragic killing accusing Republicans of trying to get former Vice President Kamala Harris killed.
Omar cited the end of Harris’ Secret Service protection during an appearance on Zeteo News.
“Michael Hernandez asked a good question on YouTube. He says, in this environment, why would you take away Secret Service protection from the former vice president?” Zeteo News founder Mehdi Hasan asked Omar.
“Trump happily pulled protection from Harris and I believe from people like John Bolton, who I’m not a fan of, but I don’t want to see John Bolton killed. He pulled protection from a lot of people he doesn’t like. Doesn’t sound like someone taking political violence that seriously when it’s people he doesn’t like.”
“No. I mean, and that’s the thing, it’s — they are never willing or care to worry about when, you know, it’s those of us on the other side of the aisle that are getting death threats, that have had their houses shot at, that have had, you know, people show up to their homes,” Omar claimed.
“They’re willing to actually take away the security and the safety of people like VP Harris, because they don’t mind, they don’t mind her getting killed. And that is the reality in which we are living in and we have to continue to talk about. Because unless we all collectively make a decision that this is not normal and that we are going to actually be civil, you know, this is going to continue.”

But here’s what Omar missed.
Trump was restoring the standard for former vice presidents after the Biden administration secretly extended Harris’ coverage beyond normal policy.
Former vice presidents typically receive federal government protection for only six months after leaving office, while former presidents receive lifetime protection.
Harris’s six-month period expired in July, but the Biden administration quietly extended her protection to 18 months without public disclosure or explanation.
The secret extension would have kept Harris’s taxpayer-funded security in place until July 2026, with taxpayers covering her upcoming book tour for her memoir “107 Days” scheduled for release next month.
Then-President Joe Biden quietly signed a directive extending protection for Harris beyond the traditional six months right before leaving office. The extension was not made public until news of Trump’s decision broke.
Trump’s action returns Secret Service protection for former vice presidents to the standard policy that has applied to all previous vice presidents.
Mainstream news outlets initially reported Trump’s decision without disclosing Biden’s secret extension, and ran headlines suggesting Trump was arbitrarily stripping Harris of protection for political reasons.
The extension of Harris’s protection was done without congressional authorization or changes to existing law governing post-office benefits for former officials.
