Dem mayor flees D.C. amid crime crackdown

The Roman Emperor Nero famously fiddled while Rome burned. But today’s Democrats can do better than that: As liberal policies reduce their cities into war zones, they live it up in some of the most elite spots on Earth.

America’s attention is riveted on Washington, D.C., President Donald Trump federalized the district’s Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) after a vicious attack on a federal staffer.

Democrats have denied there’s a problem and insisted this is the first step toward a Trump military dictatorship over the entire country.

But as left-wingers demand full resistance to the president’s reasonable efforts to take our nation’s capital from murderers, gangs, drug dealers, and pimps, the Democrat at the center of the fight has taken a powder, setting off for the hottest Democratic vacation and party spot in America.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser fled the city to go to Martha’s Vineyard—the ritzy playground of the left-wing super-elite.

Washington’s Fox News 5 confirmed that Bowser left for the Massachusetts island playground on Thursday due to “a family commitment.” The mayor told the outlet she would return Friday afternoon.

“This jumps to the top of the list of dumb politician moves,” said stunned former Trump White House spokesman Sean Spicer.

After the story broke, Bowser took to social media to defend herself for beating feet out of D.C.

She had already suffered enough, the Democrat said. “This week, I cancelled a scheduled family trip to lead our city’s crisis management efforts,” Bowser complained.

Bowser also played the single mom card, saying her life is hard, because she’s “raising a delightful 7 year old on my own.” As a struggling single mom living in public housing, she reluctantly “made the more difficult decision to not disrupt my daughter’s camp plans” on the millionaire’s island paradise.

Not to worry, though, Bowser said she remained “in constant consultation with our partners throughout a short swing out of the District.”

Of course, if she needed to, Bowser could have had any number of family members, friends, state employees, or political allies pick up her child and bring her home. Plenty of Democrats live there.

Barack and Michelle Obama’s multimillion-dollar Martha’s Vineyard mansion has seven guest rooms; the littlest Bowser could have stayed overnight in one of them.

Interestingly, her fellow Democrats couldn’t work up the nerve to criticize her for running in the face of President Trump’s anti-crime crackdown.

Instead, they criticized Ted Cruz.

Last week, one of the Texas Democrats who fled the Lone Star State to prevent redistricting, Rep. Ann Johnson, blasted Cruz for going on a family vacation to Cancun during a massive power failure in February 2021. “Flying to Cancun is abandonment,” Johnson posted on social media less than a week before Bowser fled her district.

So, Democrats agree that leaving town during a crisis is “abandonment”? Good to know.

Bowser’s departure left the anti-Trump Resistance to her minions—and to Tim Walz’s daughter.

On Thursday, District of Columbia Attorney General Brian Schwalb sent a memo telling MPD Chief Pamela Smith to ignore the Trump administration’s orders and continue obeying Schwalb.

Meanwhile, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s daughter, Hope, posted a TikTok video screaming that the decision to clean up the rat-infested, crime-riddled nation’s capital is just another example of “Trump’s bitch baby, wussy, scaredy cat behavior in D.C.”

To really understand it, she said, you should read a book on how sending criminals to prison is “the new Jim Crow.”

Democrats have tried to claim President Trump doesn’t need to send the National Guard into the District, because there’s no problem with crime.

Bowser said the District of Columbia is safe as can be—and what crime there is pales next to…the city’s parks. “We have the #1 park system, fantastic public schools, and a tremendous public transportation system,” Bowser posted on X.

Bowser thinks “it’s important for all who live here and visit to know how beautiful our city is and how proud we are of all that we’ve accomplished.”

What Bowser accomplished is making our nation’s capital more dangerous than the capital of Pakistan.

“Washington, D.C.’s murder rate is roughly three times higher than that of Islamabad, Pakistan, and 18 times higher than that of communist-run Havana, Cuba,” said a White House fact sheet pushing back on the Democrats’ narrative earlier this week.

Washington, D.C., has the fourth-highest homicide rate in the country.

Statistics show the number of murders on D.C.’s blood-soaked streets remains near a 20-year high.

Murders jumped during the Black Lives Matter riots of 2020 and hit a record of 274 in 2023.

It’s true that murders fell last year: For some reason, something happened in 2024 that made crooks in D.C. think twice.

But the District’s 187 murders in 2024 still outnumber pre-BLM homicides at any time since the 2005, when killers slayed 196 people on the capital’s streets in the shadow of the Capitol.

Bowser leaving her city is the perfect illustration of what’s happening in America: As President Trump and the Republicans try to clean up the mess, Democrats complain, run, and party down on their island enclaves.

President Trump shouldn’t stop until our seat of our government, and every city in America, should be as safe as Martha’s Vineyard.
