Billionaire Democratic donor George Soros is set to be subpoenaed to testify about election interference after newly declassified documents revealed his foundation’s involvement in Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign plot against Donald Trump.

Rep. Tim Burchett submitted a request to Comer to subpoena Soros on Friday:

This is HUGE!!

They were implicated in the Russia hoax and MUST face accountability. @RepJamesComer needs to get this done ASAP! pic.twitter.com/POMl8fxqW5

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna said in June that she’d asked House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer to subpoena Soros for his role in “funneling money to manipulate elections.”

“I actually just received a message today from Rep. Van Drew, who’s in New Jersey, that actually said on his subcommittee, which he’s a chairman, they’re going to explicitly be looking at George Soros’ interference in our election process. So, this is something that’s been well overdue,” Luna said on “The Chris Salcedo Show.”

The push comes after the Senate Judiciary Committee declassified a 29-page “Durham annex” Thursday that chronicles the Office of Special Counsel’s investigation into the Clinton campaign’s efforts to fabricate the Trump-Russia collusion narrative.

The documents show Leonard Benardo, senior vice president of Soros’ far-Left Open Society Foundations, appearing in emails with Clinton foreign policy advisor Julianne Smith discussing how to create a story casting Trump as “an agent of influence” for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In a July 25, 2016 email, Benardo told someone that “politicization is on the table” and that he and Smith had been discussing ways to tie Trump to Russian election interference “in the interest of Donald Trump.”

“Julie [Smith] says it will be a long-term affair to demonize Putin and Trump. Now it is good for a post-convention bounce. Later the FBI will put more oil on the fire,” Benardo wrote, indicating Clinton’s campaign planned to use the FBI to push the story.

A follow-up email dated July 27, 2016 claims Clinton personally approved the plan.

“HRC approved Julia’s idea about Trump and Russian hackers hampering U.S. elections. That should distract people from her own missing email, especially if the affair goes to the Olympic level,” Benardo wrote.

The goal appeared to be diverting attention from Clinton’s email scandal since “Hillary is hardly good-looking as far as credibility is concerned,” Benardo added.

When questioned by the Office of Special Counsel, Benardo said he had no recollection of writing the emails. Clinton said the plan “looked like Russian disinformation.” Campaign Chair John Podesta and other advisors denied the validity of the emails and called them “ridiculous.”

Sen. Chuck Grassley said the documents expose “one of the biggest political scandals and cover-ups in American history.”

“Based on the Durham annex, the Obama FBI failed to adequately review and investigate intelligence reports showing the Clinton campaign may have been ginning up the fake Trump-Russia narrative for Clinton’s political gain, which was ultimately done through the Steele Dossier and other means,” Grassley said Thursday.

“History will show that the Obama and Biden administration’s law enforcement and intelligence agencies were weaponized against President Trump,” he added.

Luna also cited Soros’ spending on local prosecutor races as grounds for the subpoena. The billionaire has spent over $50 million on prosecutorial candidates in the last decade, according to reports.

The Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund reported in 2024 that Soros-backed district attorneys “represent over 70 million people or more than 1 in 5 Americans, [and] often pursue pro-criminal and anti-police policies.”

These prosecutors are in Orlando and Minneapolis, Durham and Des Moines, Savannah and Portland, Dallas and Memphis and San Antonio and St. Louis, and Los Angeles. The Heritage Foundation reported they “engage in prosecutorial nullification by refusing to prosecute entire categories of crimes, watering down felonies, refusing to ask for bail and refusing to prosecute violent juveniles as adults.”

“Of course, violence crime rates often explode in their cities,” Heritage wrote.

Examples include George Gascon of Los Angeles, Kim Foxx of Chicago, Kim Gardner of St. Louis, Rachael Rollins of Boston and Marilyn Mosby of Baltimore, who Heritage said “each turned out to be a disaster once they were elected district attorney.”

Luna said many of her congressional colleagues have weak stomachs when it comes to investigating powerful figures like Soros.

“They’re doing the groundwork, and it’s our job in Congress to follow up. But look, there’s a lot of people in Congress that can get weak, weak stomachs on these topics. And so, we need the American people to hold them accountable,” she said.

It seems Burchett took her words to heart — and wants answers now.
