Police reports stated that Smith allegedly struck 77-year-old local resident Dorothy Dobbins at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Dobbins was crossing the street inside of a marked crosswalk when she was struck, according to authorities.
Dobbins was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center after she was struck by the vehicle.
She succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. The exact nature of Dobbins’ injuries have not been publicly disclosed.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department noted the preliminary contributing factor for this crash appeared to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian, and that there were no signs of impairment.
“He showed no signs of impairment. There are no charges at present as the investigation continues,” the press release reads.
Smith’s attorney issued a statement confirming the country music singer was “involved in a car accident that tragically claimed a life,” according to a statement reported in People Magazine.
“His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins’ family during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement said.
“Mr. Smith continues to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.”
Smith is a budding star in the country music scene after he was nominated for New Male Artist of the Year at the 2024 American Country Music Awards.
