Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s journey from a powerful Baltimore political family to becoming the most powerful woman in American political history has gotten a new look after a old, rare photo of Pelosi — then D’Alesandro — in the New York Times was just uncovered.
Born in Baltimore longtime Democratic Mayor Thomas D’Alesandro Jr., she grew up immersed in political party’s quest for power.
After graduating from Trinity College, she married Paul Pelosi in 1963 and moved to San Francisco where she would eventually forge her own political career in that same Democratic Party.
Pelosi made history in 2007 as the first female Speaker of the House, wielding the gavel twice – from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023.
During her tenure, she played pivotal roles in the impeachments of President Donald Trump.
After decades in power, it was Pelosi’s relationship with Trump that was particularly contentious, culminating in her tearing up his State of the Union speech in 2020.
60 years later, the daughter whose photo once appeared in The New York Times’ society pages as a young bride-to-be in 1963 — a picture submitted by her father — has built a controversial legacy.
