First it was Ivanka. Then Eric and Donald, Jr.
Now Barron Trump has joined a long line of children thrust into the spotlight as one of his father, Donald’s, most trusted political advisors a little over one week before the presidential election.
This despite the younger Trump just having entered his freshman year of college.
What exactly is the 18-year-old Barron doing for his old man?
According to reports, Barron has been given the the unofficial role of “podcast adviser” to his father’s presidential campaign as a way to better reach younger voters.
A poll for NBC in September showed that one-third of the 41 million Gen Z voters would choose Trump in the election, so there is massive potential that Barron’s input could be influential in the last few weeks of the campaign.
Podcasts are quickly becoming a major cog in Donald Trump’s campaign, especially during the closing days of the presidential race.
Barron — the youngest of Trump’s three sons — was the one to introduce his father to the podcast world, a source close to Trump told ABC News.
Though the news of Barron joining his father’s campaign is fresh, he’s been working behind the scenes to help his father lock in popular podcast appearances.
YouTuber and wrestler Logan Paul was top of mind for Barron, the source noted, and his podcast “Impaulsive” was the first one Donald Trump appeared on, back in June.
Trump’s long-time adviser Jason Miller told Playbook’s Rachael Blade that Barron has been instrumental in Trump’s focused approached on podcast appearances.
“Barron has been very involved in recommending a number of the podcasts we should do,” Miller said. “I got to tell you, hats off to the young man. Every single recommendation he’s made turned out to be ratings gold.”
More than 14 million people have watched Trump’s appearance on This Past Weekend With Theo Von.
Trump began the conversation by telling host Von that his son Barron was a big fan who told him, “Dad, he’s big. He’s a big one.”
Trump’s interview on streamer Adin Ross’ show has more than 2.6 million views since Aug. 5. His appearance on “This Past Weekend with Theo Von” got more than 14 million views since Aug. 20. His sitdown on “Flagrant” picked up more than 5.7 million views since Oct. 9, and his chat on “PBD Podcast” gathered more than 2.7 million views since Oct. 17.
Trump will record an interview with Joe Rogan today in Austin, Texas, marking his first appearance on America’s most popular podcast.
The interview, confirmed by Trump campaign officials, gives Trump critical access to Rogan’s massive audience of 17.5 million YouTube subscribers and 14 million Spotify followers, predominantly young male voters crucial to both campaigns.
Vice President Kamala Harris has also appeared on podcasts during her campaign, including a recent appearance with host Alexandra Cooper on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast on Oct. 6.
It’s gathered more than 669,000 views on YouTube.
