Day 1 of the Democratic National Convention is in the books.

And it had plenty of fireworks.

Highlighted by massive, anti-Israel/pro-Palestine protests, the first day of the Democratic National Convention got off to a rocky start with many protesters directing their ire at the Democratic Party for their support over Israel.

This despite the message from the convention to be about “unity.”

Once the actual convention got down to business, it featured a number of top Democrats taking the podium.

Among those that spoke yesterday included Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and first lady Jill Biden.

Vice President Kamala Harris also made an appearance, who took a brief moment to celebrate President Biden ahead of his keynote address.

Biden’s keynote speech was the hightlight of the night. However, it was delayed by over an hour, with his speech missing the initial primetime TV slot and not starting until close to 11pm.

Biden delivered an emotional speech to cap the first day of the convention where he spanned his five-decade-long career, lauded his accomplishments in office, and heaped praise on Harris as he passed her the torch.

As for what to expect for day 2?

The official lineup has yet to be released, a number of prominent Democrats are expected to speak today at the convention, with former President Barack Obama set to deliver the keynote address.

Former first lady Michelle Obama will also address the convention today, a source familiar with the planning told CBS News.

And Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont is also expected to speak, along with Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker.

Day 2 programming gets underway at 6 p.m. CT, or 7 p.m. ET.
