Vice President Kamala Harris has been avoiding interviews so thoroughly, it turns out her 2024 Democratic running mate, Gov. Tim Walz, D-M.N., dog gave a press interview before she did.

Has a major presidential candidate ever avoided the press this much in U.S. history?

Walz’s dog Scout granted a media interview, published by Vogue on Wednesday, 25 days after Harris received President Joe Biden’s endorsement.

Talk about weird.

The article, titled “Scout Walz Is Man’s (And Maybe America’s) Best Friend,” features quotes attributed directly to the dog. Scout “told” Vogue about his favorite activities, including playing frisbee with Tim Walz, and his love for peanut butter.

The canine also admitted to stealing cat food from his “sister” Honey and eating Walz’s glasses.

The Walz family described Scout as a “gentle giant” and a “big softie,” adding that he “rescued us as much as we rescued him.” The piece details how Walz brought Scout home on September 5, 2019, fulfilling a promise made to his son two years earlier.

Vogue’s interview is part of its “The Dogue Days of Summer” series, spotlighting celebrities’ dogs.

While Scout’s interview has garnered attention, Vice President Harris has yet to define her policies or hold a press conference since becoming the presumptive nominee.

Harris and Walz did conduct an interview with each other, without media presence, discussing topics from “white guy tacos” to their “relationship with music.” The video of this scripted exchange was released late Thursday.

In contrast, 2024 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump held a news conference at his Bedminster golf club on Thursday afternoon, his second press engagement since August 8.
