Agents from the Federal Berueau of Investigation launched a raid of the New York home of top Democratic fundraiser Brianna Suggs.
Suggs, the chief fundraiser for New York City Mayor Eric Adams, was questioned by agents from one of the public corruption squads in the FBI’s New York office, insiders reported.
Adams was scheduled to meet with Democratic leaders in Washington, D.C., but abruptly changed his plans and rushed back to his home office when he got news of the FBI raid.
“On my way to DC to join my fellow mayors to talk with our federal partners about the asylum seeker crisis,” the mayor’s social media account said early Thursday. “Follow along throughout the day.”
Hours later, Adams was back in New York City.
According to New York City’s ABC7 —
The mayor’s office says Suggs is not a City Hall employee, has nothing to do with the operation of the city and directed all questions to the mayor’s campaign spokesperson, who has not returned comment.
Suggs started as an intern in Brooklyn Borough Hall in 2017 and coordinated the mayor’s political fundraising activities from his 2021 campaign.
She says she raised $18.4 million for Adams’ 2021 campaign, and at least $900,000 so far for his 2025 reelection effort.
“The campaign has always held itself to the highest standards. The campaign will of course comply with any inquiries, as appropriate,” said Adams 2021 campaign counsel Vito Pitta.
A spokesman for Adams said the mayor returned to New York City to “deal with a matter.”
