Stunning! 30 more stores shut in San Francisco

“On the Holmes Front,” with Frank Holmes

One of America’s great cities is running low on food, (legal) drugs, and the true staple of life: coffee.

That’s the news from the Democrat-controlled, ultra-liberal bastion of San Francisco, where stores selling all of those items have decided to close their businesses thanks to huge, organized shoplifting bleeding them dry.

Businesses from Whole Foods, to Starbucks, to Target, to CVS and Walgreens say the city’s politicians are insane, their shelves are empty, and their profits are a thing of the past.

Whole Foods just closed just its location on Market Street after employees made an unbelievable 568 emergency calls to police in 13 months.

That comes after Amazon, the high-end grocery chain’s parent company, closed all its Bay-based Go stores in March.

Meanwhile, Starbucks won’t be serving up beverages in seven of its stores in the city, the chain announced.

The caffeine withdrawal may give San Franciscans a headache — but they won’t be able to get medicine to get over it.

CVS is about to close one of its downtown locations in less than two weeks. Its pharmacy at Mission and Second Street closes on October 23.

That means the pharmaceutical chain has closed most of its six downtown San Francisco stores; it closed three last year. CVS shut down 6 of its 21 stores citywide last year.

Target beat CVS out of town, shutting down three separate stores in the Bay area by next Saturday, October 21.

Walgreens was even further ahead of the curve: It shut down five pharmacies in 2022—and some residents say the stores’ closures have made them heartsick. “Walgreens is a big, big part of my life. It sounds corny but it fed my family,” said Gina Mullins, whose father worked at the pharmacy.

For those keeping track at home, that’s over 30 retail locations shuttered in just two years.

“Bidenomics at work!” said former Saturday Night Live comedian Rob Schneider.

He pinned the blame, in part, on former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who announced she’ll be seeking yet another term representing San Francisco in Congress.

“The job is NOT finished! There are still some large retail stores still OPEN in San Francisco!” said Schneider.

The business exodus doesn’t surprise to anyone in the area, including the police, who are trying as well as they can to rein in the surge in violence and property damage.

“These crimes devastating to our business community and local economy,” said San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott. “Too often we’ve seen these crimes escalate into violence.”

“San Francisco appears to have descended into a city of chaos,” said Davis Smith, founder and former CEO of Cotopaxi, on LinkedIn.com. “Many streets and parks are overrun with drugs, criminals, and homelessness, and local leadership and law enforcement enable it through inaction.”

The city’s politicians say they are taking care of the problem…but their aim seems off.

On Wednesday San Francisco’s far-Left mayor, London Breed, bragged that she would take action to keep police from forcing car theft victims to pay for the parking tickets racked up by the thieves.

San Francisco should be doing everything it can to help victims of crime.

The good news is we have a technology fix to protect victims of car theft from unnecessary ticketing. The bad news is, once again, there's a local bureaucratic barrier in the way.

Of course, it’s not just San Francisco.

Target’s also beating it out of three other Democrat-controlled cities: three stores in Portland, Oregon; two in Seattle; and one in East Harlem.

“Our team continues to face an unacceptable amount of retail theft and organized retail crime,” said Target CEO Brian Cornell in August. “Unfortunately, safety incidents associated with theft are moving in the wrong direction.”

All in all, organized theft is costing stores more than $100 billion a year, according to a survey taken last year by the National Retail Federation.

There’s a reason for that: It’s official policy.

A former governor said Democrats have one policy that defines their party: “We’re about ruining the cities. We want to f*ck up every city in America… That seems to be the theme,” said Arnold Schwarzenegger.

ARNOLD: "This is what the Democrats would say, 'We're about ruining the cities. We want to f*ck up every city in America…That seems to be the theme."

Admitted, blue states do not officially promote destroying cities as such: The decimation of Democrat-controlled urban areas follows naturally from liberal policies like prosecuting only major thefts over $900, enacting “no cash bail,” sky-high welfare programs that make everything seem free, passing out needles to drug addicts, and repealing laws against loitering that discourage homelessness.

It’s enough to drive a man to drink… but not at Starbucks.
