Kevin McCarthy sets a September timeline for impeaching Biden

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has floated an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden… and McCarthy gave specifics during an interview Tuesday night.

McCarthy promised to impeach Biden sometime after this month… on one condition.

Specifically, McCarthy intends to launch an impeachment inquiry only if Biden fails to provide the documents requested by the House Oversight Committee as part of its investigation into his son, Hunter.

McCarthy wants to see the president’s personal bank statements and old credit card bills. That way, he can determine whether Biden benefitted from his son’s business dealings.

“If they withhold the documents and fight like they have now to not provide to the American public what they deserve to know, we will move forward with impeachment inquiry when we come back into session,” McCarthy said Tuesday on Fox Business Network.

McCarthy has threatened to launch an impeachment inquiry before. “This is rising to the level of impeachment inquiry, which provides Congress the strongest power to get the rest of the knowledge and information needed,” McCarthy said in an interview last month.

However, on Tuesday, McCarthy put a timeline on the impeachment inquiry for the first time.

He threatened impeachment in September “when we come back into session.” As of Wednesday, both houses of Congress have adjourned for the August recess, with tentative plans to reconvene on Sept. 12.

McCarthy may receive the bank statements by then, and in that case, he would see no need to impeach.

“If they provide us the documents, there wouldn’t be a need for an impeachment inquiry,” McCarthy said Tuesday.

In other words, McCarthy would use an impeachment inquiry to make Biden release the old records. The House speaker may or may not turn the impeachment inquiry into an attempt to remove Biden from office. In any case, the Democrat-controlled Senate would likely vote to acquit Biden and keep him in office.

Biden has denied any involvement in his son’s business dealings.

“McCarthy keeps lying about their ‘investigations’ because the truth is their own witnesses testified President Biden wasn’t involved and did nothing wrong, and bank records they subpoenaed show no involvement,” a White House spokesperson said in a tweet earlier this month.

“Yet they go on wasting time and tax dollars on their wild goose chase.”
