Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has struggled in primary polls before… he just hit a new low.
Between Aug. 5 and Aug. 7, pollsters at NH Journal/Co-Efficient surveyed 862 “likely Republican voters” through mobile texting and landline interviews.
DeSantis has dropped to third place in New Hampshire, the site of the party’s first primary. He fell behind both former President Donald Trump and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, an anti-Trump Republican.
Trump is set to command 43 percent of the state’s likely voters, with DeSantis and Christie each headed for 9 percent.
Co-Efficient CEO Ryan Munce said in a press release, “As a pollster, I wonder if there is any other political figure in America who could generate this level of loyalty [compared to Trump]. It will be difficult for any Republican to peel away these voters.”
Meanwhile, Christie has risen to second place even while feuding with Trump. Earlier this month, Christie called the former president a “complete and total coward” with “a yellow streak so far down his back.”
After all that, Christie is polling even with DeSantis, a figure less critical of Trump.
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley was polling at 7 percent, following closely behind Christie and DeSantis.
At 5 percent were South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott and author-turned-entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
A whopping 13 percent of likely voters remained undecided, up from 10 percent in mid-June.
DeSantis has polled in third place before, oftentimes sharing a middle tier of polling with either Scott or Ramaswamy.
However, this New Hampshire poll found only single-digit support for DeSantis.
In other words, the poll found no middle tier. Only a bottom tier.
All in all, the poll included only a few reasons for DeSantis to remain optimistic. For example, the poll suffers from a small sample size and a 3.3 percent margin of error. Plus, it covered only New Hampshire, and DeSantis has been campaigning in Iowa since Thursday.
But DeSantis has seen his campaign sink to the floor.
