At a campaign stop, presidential candidate Ron DeSantis discussed the stakes of next year’s presidential election… and he offered an interesting theory.
“If we muck this one and Biden gets in again, heck! You may end up with Kamala as president even which would be –,” the Florida Republican said, without even needing to finish the thought.
Gov. DeSantis is right.
Biden would be 86 at the end of a second term. However, Biden could win a second term without serving all four years of it. He could retire after his inauguration, leaving the nation in the hands of President Harris.
Or he could pass away from old age.
And if a president serves a partial term of two years or less, then he or she can seek two full terms in addition to the partial term.
Biden could retire two years into his second term… and in that case, Harris could serve as president from 2027 to 2037.
As of Wednesday, Harris is sitting at 40.7 approval, according to FiveThirtyEight’s poll aggregate. She’s underwater by 10.9 points.
At least she’s improved from her low point: 28.9 percent approval in November 2021.
DeSantis says that Biden may have picked Harris not in spite of her unpopularity, but because of it.
“When he picked her… a lot of people were like, ‘Oh my! Why did he do that?’ Because obviously she’s got issues,” DeSantis said. “But you know, I kind of understand why he did it. Because she’s the best impeachment insurance money can buy. No matter what he does, no one wants Kamala. So, that’s kind of where we are with that one.”
