Trump stuns with 2024 primary plan for May 10

Former President Donald Trump has become known for picking on CNN.

“You are fake news,” Trump told a CNN reporter at a press conference in January 2017, setting the stage for his no-holds-barred first term.

Now, Trump is running for president again… and he just threw CNN a major curveball.

Trump agreed to appear at CNN’s town hall for presidential candidates later this month, the network announced Monday.

The former president is set to appear at St. Anselm College in New Hampshire. He would take questions from the state GOP and from possible supporters in the early-voting Granite State.

According to early polls, Trump remains the clear frontrunner in the GOP’s presidential primary. However, other Republicans are still trickling into the field. For example, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson has called for Trump to “step aside” for causing a “distraction” with his New York indictment. Plus, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has yet to announce a decision on whether to run for president.

It remains unclear which possible contenders will attend the town hall, besides Trump.

The former president would be appearing on CNN for the first time since his first presidential campaign in 2016. He has become less active in the media since leaving office in 2021, amid his ban from Facebook and his self-imposed restrictions on Twitter usage.

However, he still takes questions at rallies, and he gives frequent interviews to Fox News.

A Trump adviser told the Associated Press that Trump won in 2016 by stepping outside the GOP’s comfort zone. The adviser also said that CNN executives made a compelling pitch to Trump.

CNN will broadcast the town hall at 9 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, May 10, and it will also live-stream the event online. CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins will moderate.

Given the opportunity, Trump might once again tell the network, “You are fake news.”
