Last month, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot lost re-election, and she’s become set go down in history as the city’s first one-term mayor in 40 years.
With the unpopular Lightfoot on her way out, the press is no longer prioritizing a working relationship with her… and they’re telling her what they really think.
In a lawsuit earlier this year, reporter William Kelly accused Lightfoot of stripping his press credentials, and he unloaded on Lightfoot at a meeting this week.
“I used to be sitting over there with my colleagues, but I’m standing over here,” Kelly said, gesturing at the press pool. “You told me that crime was down, my videos went viral, amassed millions likes and shares, and it was hurting your re-election campaign, so you revoked my media credential.”
Kelly didn’t stop there.
As somebody who was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, I never thought in my life that I would ever see the city of Chicago brought down so low,” he continued. “I hope that, after today’s city council meeting, you will pack your suitcase and get the hell out of my city.”
According to LinkedIn, Kelly hosts a program on AM radio, and he works for RevDigital, an entertainment creator known for its documentaries. As a freelancer, Kelly has also written columns for Newsmax, the Daily Caller, and The American Spectator.

Lightfoot was eliminated in the first round of voting in Chicago’s nonpartisan election for mayor. Despite her incumbency, she garnered only 17 percent of the vote, and she came in third.
Having arrived at City Hall in 2019, Lightfoot is set to become the Windy City’s first one-term mayor in 40 years. Her term ends on May 15.
The previous mayor — Rahm Emanuel — declined to run for reelection as more than half of Chicagoans favored his resignation. Even he won more elections than Lori Lightfoot.
Lightfoot’s failure was historic, and the press let her know that.
