Vice President Kamala Harris, the border czar, has visited South Carolina more than the border.
In fact, Harris traveled to the southeastern state again this week, several hundred miles away from the buses of illegal immigrants in Massachusetts, New York, and Washington, D.C.
What’s more, she managed to botch her trip to South Carolina. In a speech with Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, Harris awkwardly repeated herself five times.
“We invested an additional $12 billion into community banks, because we know community banks are in the community, and understand the needs and desires of that community as well as the talent and capacity of community,” Harris said.
Harris was telling the truth. Community banks are, in fact, in the community.
She was also telling the truth last year during her infamous interview with Craig Melvin of NBC News. She said at the time, “It is time for us to do what we have been doing, and that time is every day.”
Time does, in fact, occur every day.
Harris has demonstrated a curious habit of repeating certain phrases in the same sentence. In May, she awkwardly repeated the phrase “work together” while at a summit full of international representatives.
“Our world is increasingly more interconnected and interdependent,” Harris said at the time. “That is especially true when it comes to the climate crisis, which is why we will work together and continue to work together to address these issues, to tackle these challenges, and to work together as we continue to work, operating from the new norms, rules, and agreements that we will convene to work together on to galvanize global action.”
Observers went on Twitter to react to Harris’s remark about community banks being in the community.
One Twitter user joked, “This has to be a drinking game right?”
Another user begged Harris to address funding for community colleges.
Other observers found less humor in her speech. One person described it as downright pathetic. “How is she so bad at this? She’s been a Pol for her entire life,” another person remarked on Twitter.
Some conservatives took issue with both her wording and her underlying point. They questioned the administration’s decision to spend an additional $12 billion in taxpayer money.
Harris continued speaking even after that remark. Harris was speaking to students at Claflin University “with the specific purpose of hearing from you about how you are thinking about what should be the priorities for our nation and our world.”
“Access to capital should not be a barrier to innovation and creativity and what we know those small businesses are, which is part of the economic lifeblood of a community and, by extension, all of society,” Harris said, according to a transcript provided by KPVI.
“It is a phase of life where when an individual has decided to go to college, it is also about the next initiation in their birthright of leadership and the decision they have made to accelerate their leadership role, not only in their family and community but in our nation.”
All in all, she used the word “community” six times in the speech.
