Ukraine’s Zelenskyy involved in car crash

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was involved in a car crash in their nation’s capital, the president’s Press Secretary Sergii Nykyforov said Wednesday.

“In Kyiv, a car collided with the car of the President of Ukraine and escort vehicles,” the press secretary said on Facebook, according to Google Translate. “Medics accompanying the Head of State provided the driver of the car with emergency aid and transferred him to an ambulance.”

Beyond some bumps and bruises, though, Zelenskyy remains in good health, the spokesperson said.

“The president was examined by a doctor, no serious injuries were found. The law enforcement officers will find out all the circumstances of the accident.”

Zelenskyy himself gave a video address on Thursday. He didn’t mention a crash, but he hinted that he was in Kyiv.

“I’ve returned from the Kharkiv region – from our Kharkiv region, from the districts that were liberated,” Zelenskyy said, according to his website. “There will be diplomatic news from Kyiv – President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen is paying a visit.”

Zelenskyy devoted most of the address to giving updates on the war.

“Today in Izyum, I awarded our heroes. It was an honor for me to present state awards on this very land to those who liberated this land,” Zelenskyy said. “I also held a meeting today in Kharkiv regarding the energy situation in the city and the region.”

Zelenskyy has boosted his public image by leading the defense against Russia’s wholly unjustified war in the region. Still, despite Zelenskyy’s high profile, much of the information about the crash remains either unknown or unconfirmed.

Some Kyiv residents went on Twitter to offer eyewitness accounts.

I think I’ve seen our President Zelenskyy tonight’s car crash in Kyiv.

Seemed not too bad.
