Report: Hillary Clinton has big plans for next week

Former State Secretary Hillary Clinton makes headlines constantly. She’s led a career so long that it defies logic. Now, she’s taking on a new project.

Specifically, Clinton will speak at New York State Democratic Party convention later this month, as some operatives confirmed to CNBC Thursday.

Clinton spokespeople did not respond to CNBC’s request for comment, and neither did New York State Democratic Party Chair Jay Jacobs.

Menwhile, Chris Melnyczuk, the chair’s chief of staff, neither confirmed nor denied.

“We’ve reached out to a number of folks, we’re not going to say who we’ve reached out to,” he said.

One insider confirmed Clinton’s plans and said, “It’s good for her because it keeps her relevant and her appearance is likely meant to galvanize the party and the audience.” The insider remained anonymous to speak more freely.

“She’s beloved by the mainstream members of the Democratic Party and her popularity is likely higher than that of President Biden.”

That’s false — at least by some important metrics.

In last month’s Harvard/Harris poll, Clinton was polling at 7 percent as a potential candidate for 2024’s presidential primaries.

Clinton was polling equally as low as Vice President Kamala Harris and one point behind Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va. Most importantly, she was polling nine points behind Biden.

Plus, Clinton saw her favorability ratings plummet during her 2016 campaign, according to Gallup polling. If she starts a new campaign, then she may dip even further.

Nonetheless, Clinton remains politically active. Last month, she appeared at a virtual fundraiser for Rep. Tim Ryan, an Ohio Democrat running for a vacant Senate seat.

At that event, Clinton made some “great an insightful” remarks — according to big donor from Wall Street, who attended the event and spoke to CNBC Thursday.

She has also spoken at previous conventions. As a former senator from New York, Clinton attended the state’s 2018 convention to endorse the reelection bid of former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, before the allegations of sexual harassment.

It remains unclear what Clinton will discuss at the upcoming convention.

Recently, she has been speaking about the Democrats’ prospects in the upcoming elections.

“It means nothing if we don’t have a Congress that will get things done, and we don’t have a White House that we can count on to be sane and sober and stable and productive,” Clinton said on Sunday TODAY, distancing herself from Biden’s unpopular administration.

“I think that it is a time for some careful thinking about what wins elections, and not just in deep-blue districts where a Democrat and a liberal Democrat, or so-called progressive Democrat, is going to win.”

No one has yet confirmed the date or time of Clinton’s scheduled appearance. She may speak on either day of the convention, between Feb. 16 and Feb. 17.
