President Joe Biden’s first year in office has been filled with indecision and incompetence — and it’s going to lead to a historic “shellacking” in the midterm elections.
That’s according to NBC News’ Chuck Todd, who reported on a stunning new poll on “Meet the Press” Sunday.
Biden is “no longer seen as competent and effective.”
Biden’s recent 2-hour press conference last week “was designed to kick off a second year reset of his presidency [and] recapture his political identity, if you will” but fell flat with voters.
The bad news extends even to self-identified Democrats, who have soured on Biden’s during his short 12-months behind the Resolute Desk.
“Our new NBC News poll suggests Mr. Biden does need a reset because he’s lost his identity a bit,” Todd said.
“He’s no longer seen as competent and effective. No longer seen as a good commander-in-chief, or… perhaps most damaging, as easy-going and likable.”
Only 5 percent of voters said Biden was doing a better job than expected. 36 percent said he was doing worse.
His overall approval rating sits at a dismal 43 percent, unchanged from NBC News’ poll in the fall.
That could spell disaster for the upcoming midterm elections, where the Democrats will try to preserve their narrow hold on Congress.
“History shows that kind of presidential approval rating leads to a shellacking for the party in power,” Todd said.
Over 70 percent of Americans say the United States is on the wrong track, another poor sign for Democrats heading into the election.
“This is only the third time in our poll’s history in over 30 years where we’ve had two tracks that off. That … would put you in shellacking territory for the party in power.”
