Vice President Kamala Harris celebrated her birthday with a surprise party Wednesday… or something like a surprise party.
Katherine Doyle, the White House correspondent for the Washington Examiner, tweeted a video of the event… and it quickly went viral.
Folks, this is brutal to watch.
Harris shouts “surprise!” to herself before entering the room.
After that, the crowd awkwardly sang her the “Happy Birthday” but couldn’t agree on what to call her. The crowd sang, “Happy birthday, dear [overlapping voices].”
Conservatives say Harris had clearly staged her own surprise party.
Some Biden-Harris supporters that Harris was simply making a joke that didn’t land. According to this theory, Harris was joking about the fact that she clearly wasn’t surprised.
However, what happened next truly defies explanation.
Harris, who was wearing a mask, appeared to kiss Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff… who was also wearing a mask.
They shared a masked kiss.

One Twitter user joked that Emhoff’s bouquet looked like President Joe Biden’s bouquet from the same day. “We are in the middle of a supply chain crisis. They have to recycle the flowers,” the user wrote.
Harris has faced criticism over the ongoing crisis at the southern border. In June, she visited Mexico and Guatemala to address the “root causes” of migration, in the words of administration officials. During a press conference, she apparently tried to curb migration simply by telling the people of Guatemala, “Do not come. Do not come.”
Illegal immigration has overwhelmed the U.S. Southern border since then.
At least Harris was following the mask mandate on Thursday, unlike President Joe Biden and Press Secretary Jen Psaki.
