As family members arrived to pick up their children from a late night teen party at a Florida nightclub early Monday morning, at least one gunman turned his weapon on the crowd and opened fire.
Two people were killed and up to 14 others wounded, police said. The teen party was billed as a “Swimsuit Glow Party,” at Club Blu in Fort Myers, according to local media.
Police detained three people and said the area around the club had been deemed safe, police Capt. Jim Mulligan said in a statement.
It was not immediately clear what triggered the violence, but Islamic terrorism has been all but ruled out.
Three people remained hospitalized Monday morning, Cherly Garn, a spokeswoman for Lee Memorial Health System, said in an e-mail. All others were treated and released. Two people brought to two other area hospitals were also treated and released, Garn said.
Ages of the patients ranged from 12 to 27, Garn said.
The club is in a strip mall that includes a daycare center and is across the street from a large apartment complex. Officers had the area taped off as crime scene technicians scoured the strip mall parking lot for clues.
The shooting comes more than a month after a nightclub shooting in Orlando that was the deadliest shooting in modern U.S. history. The shooting at the Pulse nightclub on June 12 left 49 victims dead and 53 others wounded.
The violence at Club Blu erupted about 12:30 a.m. Monday, Mulligan said. There were two active crime scenes, police said. Several hours later a street in the area remained closed as police investigated.
In a statement, authorities said the Fort Myers police and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office were “actively canvassing the area looking for other persons who may be involved in this incident.”
The names of the victims were not immediately available.
Syreeta Gary told WFTX-TV her daughter ran and dodged between shots to avoid being shot. Her daughter was OK, but her daughter’s friend “got hit in the leg and luckily it’s just her leg,” she said.
“Her dodging bullets and running, dropping in between cars, it’s ridiculous that these kids have to go through this,” Gary said. “They can’t enjoy themselves because you have other people that have criminalistic minds and they just want to terrorize things.”
A post on Club Blu’s Facebook page Monday morning said the shooting happened as the club was closing and parents were picking up their children. The post also said there was armed security at the event.
“We are deeply sorry for all involved,” the post read. “We tried to give teens what we thought was a safe place to have a good time.”

My sense is most politically correct Westerners and their governments don’t have a clue about the dangers we’re facing – like Chamberlain didn’t have a clue about Nazism. On the other hand, after the war, Churchill continued to ask himself: was there any way he could have reached through faster. He warned people about Hitler and Nazism for a decade, and only got heard after Hitler was bombing Britain.
Westerners will only take the dangers of Islam seriously when much more Islamic terrorist attacks occur.

The article only says “3 people were detained.” Nothing about any arrests. Speculation, here, but it sounds almost like a drive-by. IOW, the shooter apparently didn’t stick around to be arrested or killed, this time.

Kids as young as 12 out at 12:30 AM. Sounds like this was never a safe place for kids no matter how they whitewashed it do to it’s history.
i noticed that this shooting has not been covered much by the MSM. from what i can gather it was Black on Black crime again. can this be the reason? it seems no whites are to blame so the MSM can’t use racism as the reason and therefore is not interested in reporting on it.

I think all the violent games kids start playing on the computer when they are very young along with the violent movies on TV and in Theaters I’m sure puts shooting and killing on kids minds growing up which helps them along the way to commit all these terrible shootings sprees. Not a good thing something needs to be done about it. There is so much fire, shooting, or anything violent that can be thought up is presented to the public. Just sickening.
Maybe parents can start by not letting young teenagers hang out with people as old as 27 in clubs after midnight,if that isn’t a prescription for trouble than nothing is.

The first thing that struck me other than the shootings is that it was after midnight in a night club from the ages of 12 to 27? Did i read that right? What are young teenagers doing out after midnight with people as old as 27,lord have mercy.
Parents were picking the kids up. The 27-year old could have been an older brother, uncle, cousin, etc. it could have also been an employee of the club.
A swim glow suit party for teenagers, and parents letting them stay out way after midnight? What kind of parents allow their children to do this at a teen club. Specially with all the violence around this country. Until we get a President who will step in and try to control all the violence in this country we will continue to keep having more of this type of violence. Parents need to start using their heads until then.

Within seconds in the background, the SAME BUS went by.

Once the shooters are arrested we may learn more of their motivations. Until then we should consider part of the problem is our society’s lack of value on human life. We have businesses that get wealthy slaughtering unborn babies. Should we really be surprised that others in society see no problem ending the life of someone else?
