Newly released autopsy photos reveal the brutality of Jeffrey Epstein’s neck injuries at the time of his mysterious 2019 death, just weeks after his brother claimed new evidence Epstein was murdered in his prison cell was soon to be made public.
Mark Epstein told NewsNation in mid-January that additional autopsy findings would be made public in February 2026 that will prove his brother did not die by suicide.
“Jeffrey was murdered, and more autopsy facts will be coming out in February that prove it,” Mark Epstein promised.
Epstein was found dead in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City on August 10, 2019. The 66-year-old financier was awaiting trial on numerous sex trafficking charges at the time of his death, and was set to testify publicly.
According to the autopsy photos and postmortem report, examiners documented multiple brutal injuries to Jeffrey Epstein’s neck.
“There are multiple, petechial hemorrhages of the palpebral conjunctivae of both eyes, and confluent hemorrhages on the periphery of the right bulbar conjunctiva,” the report said. “There are faint petechial hemorrhages on the mucosal surfaces of the upper and lower lips.”
The autopsy found several bone fractures in Epstein’s neck, including breaks to the hyoid bone and thyroid cartilage. Bone fractures can occur in hanging deaths, but forensic experts note they appear more frequently in murders where the victim is strangled to death.
Mark Epstein hired Dr. Michael Baden, the former New York City chief medical examiner, to observe the official autopsy.
Baden concluded in 2019 that the evidence pointed to homicide rather than suicide.
“I have never seen three fractures like this in a suicidal hanging,” Baden said. He described the fractures as “extremely unusual in suicidal hangings” and more consistent with “homicidal strangulation.”
New autopsy evidence, released as part of Epstein’s file dump by the Department of Justice on Friday, may substantiate that claim, critics claim.
Take a look [Warning: These are upsetting]:

Baden said the neck wound was positioned in the center of Epstein’s neck rather than under his mandibles as typically seen in hangings. Baden also observed the wound was much thinner than the strip of bedsheet allegedly used, and while blood was present on Epstein’s neck, it was absent from the bedsheet ligature.
Officials have rejected Baden’s conclusions.
“I stand firmly behind our determination of the cause and manner of death for Mr. Epstein. The cause is hanging, the manner is suicide,” New York City Chief Medical Examiner Barbara Sampson said.
Despite this, Mark Epstein maintains his brother was killed by someone else – and said more evidence is coming.
“There are only three ways to die in prison. Suicide, natural causes or murder. …Jeff was murdered. I want to know who killed him and on whose behalf?” Mark told NewsNation.
The injuries on his brother’s body “didn’t correspond to the way his body was found hanging.”
The circumstances surrounding Jeffrey Epstein’s death have fueled widespread skepticism and conspiracy theories. Epstein had been placed on suicide watch following a prior incident in his cell but was removed from that status right before his death. He did not have a cellmate at the time. Prison guards failed to check on him for several hours before he was found dead. Two cameras positioned near his cell malfunctioned the night of his death.
The Department of Justice under Attorney General Pam Bondi continues to claim Epstein died of suicide.
