A suspect in three fatal shootings in the Washington, D.C., area was arrested Friday, police said.
Police in the Maryland suburbs said shortly before 3 p.m. that 62-year-old Eulalio Tordil had been taken into custody without incident.
They identified Tordil as an employee of the Federal Protective Service, which provides security at federal properties. Tordil was put on administrative duties in March after a protective order was issued against him.
Police say he followed 44-year-old Gladys Tordil to their children’s Beltsville’s High Point High School on Thursday and shot her. He also shot and wounded a man who tried to intervene.
At the Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda, about 10 miles northwest of downtown Washington, one person was initially shot and two others may have been shot coming to that person’s aid, said Montgomery County Police Assistant Chief Darryl McSwain. There’s no reason to believe the victims knew the shooter, he said.
A man died and another one is in critical condition, Montgomery County police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks said. A woman has injuries that are not life-threatening.
About a half an hour later, police were called to a shooting at a Giant Food store in Aspen Hill, about 5 miles away. Police later tweeted that a woman died after that shooting.
For a time, all Montgomery County schools were sheltering in place at the request of police, but schools officials later tweeted that all but five schools would dismiss on time.

@ Alan: I worked for the government for decades. Federal Protective cops have a lot of misfits. I remember 30 years ago I was walking through the corridor of a government building. I was talking to someone about the Red Sox. The person I was talking to said “they’ll lose”. At the time some students outside were protesting about El Salvador. A group of these Federal Protective Cops surrounded me and my friend asking if were “criticizing” US policy in Central America? They insulted us and acted like creeps. All that for talking about the Red Sox. Then a few years ago during the marathon crisis in Boston.They were pointing rifles at folks who worked in the government building waiting to go through security. One day I brought down my mail to the mail room. One of these Federal Protective cops actually pointed a rifle at me when I opened the mail room door. An angry looking clown who thought it brave looking like GI Joe in front of office workers.

The straight cops who give a damn should throw this man into a cellblock with hard-core convicts and identify him as a cop. Then see how long he lives. Maybe they could record the following cellblock execution for Court TV.
