Looks like President Donald Trump has a secret admirer… and you’re not going to believe who it is: Former President Barack Obama!
Once upon a time, Obama was so in love with Trump that he held him up as a shining example of the great American dream.

Obama wanted to be JUST LIKE the brash New York City dealmaker, and even hoped that if the dream didn’t come true for him, it could happen for his children.
In a Harvard Law School paper titled “Race and Rights Rhetoric” cited in a new biography of the former president and posted online by the website Complex, Obama and coauthor Robert Fisher wrote:
“[Americans have] a continuing normative commitment to the ideals of individual freedom and mobility, values that extend far beyond the issue of race in the American mind. The depth of this commitment may be summarily dismissed as the unfounded optimism of the average American – I may not be Donald Trump now, but just you wait; if I don’t make it, my children will.”

These weren’t the diary scribblings of a child.
The paper was written in 1991, when he was a fully formed 30-year-old man about to graduate from the prestigious law school.
In other words, these were the uncensored musings of a highly educated man – or a close look at what Obama thought of Trump 25 years before he tried to use everything in his power… and FAILED… to stop him from becoming president.

But the voters last year recognized what Obama clearly knew in 1991: If you want to attach a name to a true American success story, it’s one that should be imprinted on it in gold capital letters: TRUMP.
The comments must come as a big-league embarrassment to Obama when you consider the many slams he made against Trump on the campaign trail last year.
“There’s no successful businessman in America who actually thinks the most successful businessman in the country is Donald Trump,” he said in June. “I know those guys, and so do you, and I guarantee you, that’s not their view.”

Maybe “those guys” don’t think of Trump as a success, although that’s certainly not very likely given the president’s longtime track record in the world of business.
But as the newly uncovered quote shows, Obama himself certainly considered Trump successful enough to hold him up as an example of American success.

Also last year, Obama said Trump “has a long record that needs to be examined. And I think it’s important for us to take seriously the statements he’s made in the past.”
Maybe Obama should’ve started with his own statements made in the past… including what looks from here like a ringing endorsement of Trump’s “long track record.”
