A family has given $1 million to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences to celebrate their loved one and honor the doctor who saved her.
UAMS announced last month that the gift from the family of Pamela Rakhshan will establish an academic chair in her name. The endowment will provide funding for continued research and advancements to treatments for head and neck cancers.

Rakhshan was 18 in 2008 when she was diagnosed with a malignant tumor in her trachea. Dr. James Y. Suen operated on Pamela for more than 10 hours and continued her follow-up care. She’s now cancer-free.
Her father, Chris Rakhshan, who has moved from Arkansas to Colorado, says he was impressed not only with Suen’s skill but with his compassionate manner.
