Oscar-winning actor Robert DeNiro reportedly suffered a burglary at his townhouse in New York’s ritzy Upper East Side.
Senior police officials identified the burglar in a statement to NBC New York. “She was stealing Christmas presents,” one police official told the New York Post.

The NY Post obtained a criminal complaint detailing the alleged burglar’s prior crimes. The suspect, Shanice Aviles, was arraigned for three separate burglaries in October, according to the paper’s review of the complaint.
In one incident from October, a 68-year-old homeowner allegedly awoke on Oct. 11 to notice his wallet’s absence from his nightstand, found Aviles hiding behind his fridge, and stabbed her in the leg during a struggle.
In DeNiro’s case, the burglar was trying to use the actor’s tablet and “stealing Christmas presents” around 2:30 Monday morning, according to Fox News Digital’s review of the police report.
According to NBC New York, the police saw Aviles enter the basement, and they became suspicious after seeing her stay there for too long. They also told Fox News Digital they found “visible signs of forced entry” at the basement door.
DeNiro was home with his 11-year-old daughter at the time, police told NBC New York.
DeNiro has remained mum on the incident, in keeping with his longstanding tendency to protect his private life. “We are not making any statement at this time about the robbery at the temporary rental home of Robert De Niro,” Stan Rosenfeld, a spokesman for the actor, told Fox News Digital.
In fact, the police told NBC New York that they didn’t even identify the house as DeNiro’s before seeing him come down the stairs in response to the noisy arrest.
The Goodfellas star recently returned to New York City recently after living in upstate Gardiner for much of the pandemic.
The NY Post reported the value of DeNiro’s home as $69,000 per month. In 2012, DeNiro sold his previous home for $12 million.

New York state categorizes burglary as a Class B violent felony, the same as a charge for attempted murder. Aviles, 30, had just been arrested Dec. 8, police told NBC New York.
A second police source told the NY Post, “Back in the saddle with this perp.”
