Far-right Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-F.L., has raised alarm bells over what he claims are multiple “assassination teams” targeting former President Donald Trump with just weeks to go before the critical 2024 presidential election.
The congressman’s assertions, based on information from a Department of Homeland Security whistleblower, come in the wake of two recent attempts on Trump’s life.
“I am starting to get the impression that we do not have enough force protection of supporting President Trump that we ought to have, given the threat environment,” Gaetz told Breitbart in a recent interview. “We’re aware of at least five teams in-country that are geared toward killing Trump.”
The Florida congressman later elaborated on these claims in an interview on the “Human Events Daily” podcast.
“I had a senior official from the Department of Homeland Security in my office before the second assassination attempt saying that what he has assessed is there are five known assassination teams in the United States — three inspired by other governments, two that are here that are known domestic assassination teams,” Gaetz said.
Gaetz expressed concern about the adequacy of Trump’s security detail in light of this dangerous information.
“And, with that type of activity, I don’t think we should be allowing people to set up for an extended period of time and wait to take their shot outside of his golf properties or his other properties,” he told Breitbart News.
The congressman also questioned the allocation of security resources by the Biden administration.
“We’ve seen a few times where resources have been pulled off of the Trump detail for the Jill Biden detail or for the John Bolton detail. And we’re going to question whether or not that was sound, given what we knew about the efforts to kill Trump,” Gaetz stated.
“Now we don’t want anything bad to happen to Jill Biden, but at the same time, the threat envelope for her was substantially different than around Trump, and it would not have necessitated pulling assets away from the Trump detail to the Jill Biden or John Bolton detail — or any of these details that were beefed up at the same time the requests from the Trump detail and the Trump campaign for more security were going unanswered,” he said.
Gaetz claims that three of the alleged assassination teams are foreign and two domestic.
“Three of these teams are foreign-inspired, from my understanding: Iranians, Ukraine, Pakistan,” he told Breitbart News.
These allegations come after two high-profile assassination attempts on Trump in recent months. The most recent incident occurred at Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, where a suspect, Ryan Routh, was apprehended by Secret Service agents after aiming a rifle at Trump while hiding in nearby bushes.
The Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service have not publicly commented on Gaetz’ startling allegations.
As the 2024 presidential campaign intensifies, these claims raise serious questions about the security surrounding Trump.
