The Democratic Party is a trainwreck of a party that has done nothing to help anyone but itself since Joe Biden became president—at least, that’s what a lot of Democrats are saying.
A shocking new report from a Democratic Party group says the party’s own voters think the administration of Biden and Harris is a lost cause.
The news is so bad that one major Democratic strategist told his own party’s donors they could write off the 2022 midterms.
“Too late. We’re f***ed,” the strategist said.
The facts hurt—and they’re all written down in black and white in a new report from a Democratic group called Third Way.
The group saw Democrats lose what should have been an easy race for governor of Virginia and asked Democratic voters why they didn’t cast their ballots for the party’s top statewide nominee. “The problems cut far deeper than the failings of their gubernatorial nominee, Terry McAuliffe, or President Joe Biden’s flagging approval ratings. Rather, the Democratic Party’s entire brand was a wreck,” wrote Politico.
The Third Way’s report said that Biden voters—people who voted for the Democratic presidential candidate a year earlier— “could not articulate what Democrats stand for. They could also not say what they are doing in Washington, besides fighting.”
“Voters couldn’t name anything that Democrats had done, except a few who said we passed the infrastructure bill,” its report said.
Only about 10 percent of the $1.1 trillion, so-called “bipartisan” infrastructure bill actually goes to building what people usually think of as infrastructure. And that doesn’t touch the spending spree the president has planned in his “Build Back Better” spending bill, which President Biden said would “transform” America’s economy for good.
Even the name of the bill sets Democrats’ heads reeling. Biden’s fellow traditional Democrats, who support his high-spending bills, also think he’s blowing the “messaging” of his bill.
The Build Back Better plan “sounds like a f—ing fitness plan,” a former Harry Reid aide named Megan Jones told Politico.
Then again, maybe it’s because the American people are seeing the economy transformed, and they don’t like what they see. Historic inflation, the highest in 30 years, has driven the cost of food, gas, and everyday necessities higher. Real wages are falling behind…and so are the middle-class families earning them.
Joe Biden and his propaganda secretary, Jen Psaki, have tried to convince Americans inflation is “temporary,” or that it’s “a good thing,” and that the Democrats will be happy to keep the government checks rolling in.
But the Democratic study says U.S. voters aren’t buying the Bidens’ happy talk. “Voters believe the economy is bad, and no amount of stats can change their mind,” the Third Way wrote.
The economy is tanking—and the Democratic Party’s numbers are drowning with it.
The inside-the-Beltway polling Bible, FiveThirtyEight blog’s poll average, has Joe Biden’s negatives outpacing his positives since September. In fact, it shows that he’s currently eight points underwater with voters.
It’s even worse in the RealClearPolitics average of polls. The president’s ratings have been underwater every single day since August 23—and his lowest point came on the most recent day available. As of the time I wrote this, Biden’s disapproval rating is almost 11 points higher than his approval rating.
To make things worse for the Democrats, Biden’s handpicked number-two, Kamala Harris, has an approval rating that’s even lower than President Biden’s: About two points lower in FiveThirtyEight and a 12-point gap in RCP.
The party won’t be able to coast on fumes forever. It can’t hope that if it rolls downhill fast enough, the engine will rev up. This isn’t time to make a small tune-up.
The Democratic Party needs a complete overhaul, top-to-bottom, or they can wait for voters to drag it to the political junkyard in 2022 and 2024.
