In the last presidential election, the Democrats started announcing their campaigns mere days after the midterm elections. They couldn’t wait to run against former President Donald Trump, the incumbent.
This time, the Republicans have become the ones trying to unseat an incumbent, and the candidates are trickling into the field much more slowly (For the first time in 50 years, no Texans are running yet!)
But why wait for the official primary, when we can vote now in our exclusive poll. The Horn News wants to know: Who will you cast your vote for in the 2024 Republican presidential primary. Voting has begun in our official poll (see below).
As of Friday, the GOP has enlisted three candidates: former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, entrepreneur-turned-author Vivek Ramaswamy, and Trump himself.
Of course, other conservatives are expected to announce their run soon.
Former State Secretary Mike Pompeo published a book last month. Former Vice President Mike Pence visited Iowa earlier this month for a rally. South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott found himself in Iowa for a “listening tour” at the same time as Pence. Plus, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis looms large on the national stage.
On the Democratic side, President Joe Biden intends to run for re-election, but he has yet to announce it formally.
Meanwhile, self-help author Marianne Williamson has announced a primary campaign against the incumbent president. She previously ran for president in 2020. She went viral at a debate for accusing Trump of exploiting a “dark psychic force of the collectivized hatred,” but she ultimately ended her campaign to endorse any Democrat over Trump.
We want to hear from you.
