Tesla CEO Elon Musk has attracted some media scrutiny amid his bid to buy Twitter. In the spotlight, Musk expressed his intent to vote Republican.
But maybe not for Sen. Ted Cruz, R-T.X.
“I strongly supported Obama for President, but today’s Democratic Party has been hijacked by extremists,” Musk tweeted between April and May.
“In the past I voted Democrat, because they were (mostly) the kindness party. But they have become the party of division & hate, so I can no longer support them and will vote Republican.”
However, after the slaughter of elementary school children in Texas, Musk voiced some opinions on gun control that put him in direct conflict with Cruz.

“Assault rifles should at minimum require a special permit, where the recipient is extremely well vetted,” Musk tweeted Thursday, in response to a question from Republican strategist AJ Delgado.

There was an assault weapons ban in place for ten years (expired in 2004) no surprise it reduced # deaths from assault weapons. The majority to 2/3 of the public support it.

Public figures have been voicing their plans to combat gun violence ever since the bloody massacre of fourth-graders and their teachers inside a Uvalde, Texas school. On Twitter, former White House press secretary Jen Psaki spoke favorably of reinstating the blanket ban on assault weapons.
Musk, according to his tweet, holds a more permissive stance than Psaki.

His views are contrary to those of some Republicans, including Cruz.
Speaking to reporters, Cruz took issue with media moguls — like Musk –rolling out their plans for gun control in the immediate aftermath of an atrocity.
Sky News U.S. correspondent Mark Stone asked Cruz, “Is this the moment to reform gun laws?”
The senator responded:
You know, it’s easy to go to politics. I get that that’s where the media likes to go… The proposals from Democrats and the media inevitably, when some violent psychopath murders people… If you want to stop violent crime, the proposals the Democrats have — none of them would have stopped this.
Stone, based in the U.K., asked Cruz to explain the persistent incidence of mass shootings in the U.S.
“But why does this only happen in your country? I really think that’s what many people around the world, just — they cannot fathom why [mass shootings happen] only in America,” Stone alleged. “You can’t answer that.”

“You know what? You’ve got your political agenda. God love you,” Cruz concluded. “And stop being a propagandist.”
Despite Musk’s political transformation, Cruz would still find himself at odds with Musk’s gun control plan.
