It has been a mere few weeks since former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi helped secretly orchestrate a move from top Democrats to push President Joe Biden out of the 2024 presidential race.
Citing Biden’s disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump, when Biden frequently froze and stammered at the face of tough questioning or critique, Pelosi was instrumental in the movement to move Biden out of the race… and off of the cameras.
But in a sick twist of irony — or karma — Pelosi is now facing criticism for a live TV appearance of her own that including a health freeze that rivaled some of Biden’s worst moments in recent years.
While doing an interview with late night host Stephen Colbert, anti-Israel protesters abruptly interrupted Pelosi’s interview as she was discussing Biden, Vice President Harris, and the Democratic National Convention (DNC).
As Pelosi was preparing to answer a question about her involvement in Biden dropping out of the race, shouting could be heard coming from the audience.
Pelosi froze, forcing Colbert to jump in and addressed the demonstrators. “For the people who can’t tell, there’s a protest going on in the audience,” he said.
“We’re actually at a commercial break, and the – the subject is on Israel and Palestine and if you have a seat, we have to go to the commercial break,” Colbert said. “When we come back, I’ll ask the next question I had on that subject, if you’ll listen.”
“Let’s talk about another aspect of power: The U.S. using its power overseas,” Colbert asked Pelosi after the commercial break.
“As I said earlier, there is a political protester here. There is a political convention in town, you are a politician and protests are natural,” Colbert continued. “People are protesting, even within the Democratic Party, there is dissension over what is the proper use of American power, especially our protected power overseas, both firm and soft power. If the goal is the peaceful and prosperous future for both Israelis and Palestinians, what role does the United States play?”
The demonstrators interrupted again and shouted Pelosi’s words back at her, and she froze again.
Colbert addressed the protesters and asked Pelosi, “As you can see from the continuing protest out here, that answer is unsatisfying to some people. Would you like to respond to what they’re saying?”
Pelosi briefly tried to answer, only for the protesters to amp up their volume and drown out Pelosi in front of the live audience as they continually shouted Pelosi’s words back at her.
Colbert once again had to step in and address the protesters. He asked Pelosi, “As you can see from the continuing protest out here, that answer is unsatisfying to some people. Would you like to respond to what they’re saying?”
“Please don’t interrupt my guest,” Colbert continued. “Madame Speaker, we’re a live show, and we have to go at this point. Please come again and we can continue the conversation.”
