An unidentified man reportedly shot himself at the Lincoln Memorial Reflection Pool.
He pulled the trigger sometime after 7 p.m. on Monday, authorities said… but the story doesn’t end there.
The U.S. Park Police patrols the area, a national park. It has not commented on the identity of the victim, and neither has the city police.
Neither agency has disclosed the victim’s age, race, or name.
The Park Police only confirmed the shooting to Newsweek.
“Medevaced [medically evacuated] an individual from the Lincoln Memorial plaza to a hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Park Police spokesman Mike Litterst wrote in an email to The Washington Post on Monday.
Some bystanders also spoke to Post. The bystanders reportedly found the man unconscious. One of them tried to give him CPR, and another saw the police carry a handgun away in a plastic bag, according to the Post.
No bystander, however, claimed to have witnessed a gunshot. They could hardly see the reflecting pool because of the dark, uneven landscape, the Post observed.
“I’ve been here for about an hour,” a GW Hatchet reporter tweeted. “Didn’t hear any shots. Saw the MEDEVAC and a big police response though.”
The Hatchet reporter tweeted videos of the medevac.
Take a look —
A helicopter just landed by the reflection pool. Not exactly sure what it’s for, but looks like it could be a medical evac pic.twitter.com/YMUR4wiTIP
