The mainstream media went into a frenzy this weekend after President Donald Trump announced he would not to participate in the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in April.

The occasion is an annual gathering of wealthy celebrities, establishment insiders, and liberal reporters — but Trump has better things to do and will spend the evening “focused on what he can to do to help better America,” the White House announced.
The dinner was typically attended by former President Barack Obama, who was well loved by the crowd of insiders.
Trump isn’t saying why he won’t be there, but it’s clear he doesn’t have the cozy relationship Obama enjoyed with the Washington, D.C. establishment. Trump has repeatedly railed against “the fake news media,” saying it is “the enemy of the American people” and has vowed to “drain the swamp.”

Spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders says it’s “kind of naive of us to think that we can all walk into a room for a couple of hours and pretend that some of that tension isn’t there.”
She tells ABC’s “This Week” that Trump wasn’t elected “to spend his time with reporters and celebrities.”
