Hurricane Beryl continues to make waves in meteorological history as the earliest Category 5 storm ever to form in the Atlantic Ocean, with more Caribbean islands in its path.
Beryl is closing in on Jamaica, where it will deliver a devastating combination of “life-threatening storm surge” and destructive winds Wednesday. It will then take a swipe at the Cayman Islands Wednesday night into Thursday. The storm could be one of the strongest to impact Jamaica in more than 15 years.
According to international authorities, at least seven people have died in the hurricane and has now a very strong Category 4, with winds of 145 mph, coupled with being the earliest Category 5 on record in the Atlantic.
It made landfall as a Category 4 on Monday on Grenada’s Carriacou island, which was “flattened” in half an hour, Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell said.
Footage of Beryl’s destruction is now beginning to roll in. Below is a look at Beryl making landfall in nearby Barbados.
