“I thought what we’d do today is that I talk a little bit,” Elizabeth Warren said, “… just kinda introduce myself, who I am, a little bit of my story.”
“Why’d you lie!? Why’d you lie!?” a heckler suddenly shouted out, stunning Warren and the crowd into silence.
The protester held a sign that read, “WARREN 1/2020th” — a reference to Warren’s recent Native American scandal. The longtime Massachusetts liberal leader was caught lying about being a member of the Cherokee nation as far back as 1986. She apologized recently to Native American groups after being criticized for using a DNA test to “prove” her native ancestry.
She has less American Indian DNA than the average American.

In fact, at least one of Warren’s ancestors was part of the Tennessee militia that rounded up Cherokee families during the Trail of Tears.
Warren used the false claims to help advance her law career as far back as 1986, going as far as to write for the Pow Wow Chow cookbook as a member of the Cherokee Nation. She was listed at Harvard as the first minority woman law professor in school history for a decade.
Her voice began to shake as the heckler continued to demand she answer for the embarrassing scandal.
“We’ll make this happen… and then… we’re there… hold on,” Waren said, her voice shaking. “Be easy. Be easy.”
Trying to get herself back on track, Warren stumbled through a few thoughts.
“And then what we’ll talk about is policy and we’ll do as many questions as we possibly can. So, I appreciate that you’re here,” Warren said, distracted.
The crowd began to chant “Warren! Warren!” to drown out the heckler, but the damage had been done.
Visibly upset that she was being reminded of her lies, Warren began to repeat herself over and over.
“It’s okay. It’s okay,” she said.
“We’re good… we’re good… we’re good… we’re good.”
