Gaiser’s European Style Provisions Inc. has issued a nationwide recall of nearly 143,416 pounds of ready-to-eat bologna due to mislabeling concerns, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.
CBS News first issued the report of the recall.
The products, distributed to retailers and wholesalers across the U.S., may contain undeclared meat or poultry sources not listed on their labels.
The affected bologna, all bearing the USDA establishment number “EST. 5385,” was produced between March 20 and June 20, 2025.
Seven varieties are included in the recall:
- Family Tree Bologna Veal — labeled veal, but contains undeclared pork
- Babushka’s Recipe Chicken Bologna — labeled chicken, contains pork
- Fancy Bologna — labeled pork, contains undeclared beef and chicken
- Gaiser’s Russian Brand Doktorskaya Bologna — labeled pork, contains beef
- Gaiser’s Bologna Veal, Gaiser’s Turkey Bologna, and Chicken Bologna Kypoyka Paba — all may include pork, chicken, or other meats not labeled
FSIS classified this as a Class III recall, indicating no expected health risks, but they cautioned people with religious dietary restrictions, allergies, or sensitivities to avoid consuming these products.
No adverse reactions have been reported. The USDA urges consumers to either discard the bologna or return it to the point of purchase.
Retailers, institutions, and restaurants are advised not to serve these items.
Health experts say anyone experiencing illness or concerns should consult a healthcare provider.
