A U.S. defense official says a U.S. military operation to rescue 70 hostages from ISIS resulted in one U.S. fatality. 10 ISIS fighters were killed by these US forces during the rescue mission.
Details are still emerging in advance of an expected U.S. public announcement. But the official says the mission was carried out overnight in the vicinity of Hawija, west of Kirkuk.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the operation had not yet been announced.
