“On the Holmes Front,” with Frank Holmes
President Donald Trump revealed his plans for the next six years in his State of the Union on Tuesday—and the Democratic Party revealed its true colors.
It was an ugly sight.
Hundreds of Democrats refused to clap, or even smile, as the president ticked off a list of ways Americans are better off now than they were under former President Barack Obama.
Lower unemployment, bigger paychecks, less people swiping their EBT at the checkout… even American heroes who rescued little kids from international predators couldn’t win Democrats’ approval.
Let’s review just a few of the things Democrats refused to cheer:
“Unemployment has reached the lowest rate in half a century” in 2018, President Trump said, proudly.
Silence.
“African-American, Hispanic-American and Asian-American unemployment have all reached their lowest levels ever recorded,” he said.
You could’ve heard a pin drop.
The Congressional Black Caucus sat on their hands. So did Hispanic Democrats and Asian-American Democrats.
Wages are “growing for blue collar workers…faster than anyone else,” President Trump continued, but tumbleweeds could have rolled through the Democratic side of Congress.
Cleaning up one of Obama’s most shameful messes—and there were a lot of them—got no love from the Left, either.
When Trump said “we can finally terminate those who mistreat our wonderful veterans” in the VA system, the Democrats didn’t even look up from the ground.
Democrats even scowled at programs they asked for.
Trump surprised them by announcing that he supported paid family leave…something Democrats support and most Republicans oppose.
Democratic women wearing all-white sat on their hands. That’s what you get for being “bipartisan,” Mr. Trump.
When all was said and done, the only thing Congressional Democrats would applaud was themselves.
When Trump surprised them again—by noting that more women were serving in Congress than ever before—they broke out into a standing ovation that lasted 51 seconds, cheering for themselves!
Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney, the former vice president’s daughter, called the white coat brigade out on Twitter:
Things my Democrat women colleagues wouldn’t clap for at #StateOfTheUnion2019 tonight: America, freedom, free enterprise, law enforcement heroes, record low unemployment for women & minorities, the right of babies to live. Things they did clap for: themselves.
— Liz Cheney (@Liz_Cheney) February 6, 2019
Democrats will celebrate themselves—but not a bill that lets dying people with terminal diseases try experimental cures. (Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema deserves credit as the exception here.)
President Trump went through a list of goals for Washington to accomplish together in the next year:
- “to defend American jobs and demand fair trade for American workers;
- “to rebuild and revitalize our nation’s infrastructure; to reduce the price of healthcare and prescription drugs;
- “to create an immigration system that is safe, lawful, modern and secure; and
- “to pursue a foreign policy that puts America’s interests first.
The Democrats weren’t buying any of it.
They wouldn’t even stand up for Trump’s efforts to end sex slavery and the abuse of children by sick international pedophiles.
Trump said that in 2019 America will focus on “putting the ruthless coyotes, cartels, drug dealers, and human traffickers out of business.”
Probably the leading the 2020 Democratic contender right now, Senator Kamala Harris, puckered her lips and shook her head “no”—and she wasn’t the only one!
The Democrats even showed disrespect to a federal officer who saved 300 women…and children…from sex slavery.
When Trump introduced Elvin Hernandez for busting 1,500 modern-day slave traders, media darling Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez didn’t even want to stand up for him!
The socialist eventually got to her feet… but that was it. No thanks. No gratitude.
“I like how AOC couldn’t manage to clap for busting up sex trafficking rings,” said conservative writer Kurt Schlichter.
And that’s more respect than she showed the president’s family. Most Democrats stood up when First Lady Melania Trump entered the chamber – but not AOC.
She wouldn’t come to her feet when Trump called on Congress to pursue the “common good”—or even when he talked about ending AIDS.
Instead, AOC called Trump’s second State of the Union “unsettling” and an “embarrassment,” and most Democrats followed suit.
That’s bad news for them, because the polls show the American people think the president nailed it on Tuesday night.
76% of Americans approved of the State of the Union address, according to a CBS poll—including 82% of independents!
If the Democrats don’t start clapping their hands for these America First policies, a lot fewer of them will be raising their hands to get sworn in for Trump’s second term in 2021.
