Former First Lady Melania Trump is pushing for her husband to choose conservative commentator Tucker Carlson as a running mate, according to a bombshell report released Thursday.
Trump has already confirmed that he’s considering Carlson.
However, Carlson has his own ideas.
Axios reported Thursday —
Melania Trump is an advocate for picking Tucker Carlson, the booted Fox News star. She thinks Carlson would make a powerful onstage extension of her husband, a source close to Trump told us. The former first lady has made few campaign appearances this time around — but a Trump-Carlson ticket might encourage her to hit the trail.
Trump said last month that he’d consider putting Tucker Carlson on his list of running mates.
“I like Tucker a lot. I guess I would. I think I say I would,” the former president said, when asked whether to consider Carlson. “He’s got great common sense.”
Some of Trump’s confidants have dismissed the possibility of a Trump-Carlson ticket. In remarks to Axios, they’ve described Carlson as a loose cannon unfit for a presidential administration.
Team Trump has acknowledged that Trump talks with Carlson often, but they also said that Trump wouldn’t pick someone with a celebrity similar to his.
Plus, Trump is considering several other candidates for vice president. He told Kristin Welker of NBC News that he was eyeing South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem.
Tucker Carlson himself is making predictions about Trump’s next Cabinet.
The conservative pundit predicts a future for Stephen Miller as the next attorney general. During Trump’s presdiency, Miller advised him on immigration and wrote his inauguration speech.
Speaking to Axios, Carlson described Miller as “a serious person and he understands how the system works.”
Carlson also wants Trump to choose Steve Bannon as the White House’s next chief of staff. In 2017, Bannon served as Trump’s chief strategist, a newly created position.
“Steve believes: If you said we’re building a wall, we’re building a wall,” Carlson said.
