President Joe Biden has repeatedly expressed the desire for an “independent” Justice Department, a department free from the president’s political considerations.
But some staffers have noticed a worrying trend in the FBI.
Some whistleblowers spoke to the Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee, and they recounted the department’s practice of reclassifying crime statistics in accordance with their narrative.
For example, the FBI is handling the Capitol riot by delegating the investigations to local offices, according to whistleblower remarks compiled in the committee’s letter.
“If a subject lives in Dallas, the Dallas Office is expected to open the case,” the whistleblower explained.
“The manipulative casefile practice creates false and misleading crime statistics. Instead of hundreds of investigations stemming from a single, black swan incident at the Capitol, FBI and DOJ officials point to significant increases in domestic violent extremism and terrorism around the United States.”
In a testimony last month, FBI Director Christopher Wray called domestic and homegrown extremists “the greatest terror threat to our Homeland.”
Critics called this misleading. But supporters say that lone-wolf terrorists should, in fact, be investigated at their places of residence.
Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, spoke about these findings to Fox News host Tucker Carlson. He especially took issue with the FBI for allegedly telling the whistleblower to deprioritize other crimes, like child sexual abuse.
“They are juicing the numbers and cooking the books.,” Jordan told Carlson on Monday. “They are so focused on this they are willing to pull agency [resources] from child trafficking cases to foster this narrative.”
“Previous whistleblowers who came to us and said that they were pressured to label cases as domestic violence extremism,” Jordan continued. “This whistleblower came forward and talked to us about how they’re cooking the books making the numbers seem like there are cases across the country, but they are all related to January 6th. And now what’s happened, today we learned this newest whistleblower has been suspended from his job.”
For now, Jordan is simply reporting hearsay… but expressly intends to launch a House Judiciary Committee investigation into the politicization of Biden’s DOJ.
“The way you send a message is to put Republicans in charge, and what we have to do is get tough,” Jordan, the top Republican on the Democrat-controlled committee, told Carlson.
“Nothing should be off the table when it comes to reining in a political Justice Department, which everyone knows is now the case.”
