Tucker Carlson has been named a domestic terrorist by the White House? It is a claim that spread fast on Wednesday. The facts tell a more revealing story.

Conservative pundit Alex Jones set social media on fire Wednesday after claiming that the the Trump administration’s Senior Director for Counterterrorism, Sebastian Gorka, had labeled Tucker Carlson as a “possible domestic terrorist.”

In a Friday interview with Breitbart, Gorka was asked whether the Trump administration’s new counterterrorism strategy that targets violent left-wing extremists, radical Islamist groups, and drug cartels, also covers right-wing extremism.

Gorka’s answer was pointed.

“Right now, we are not seeing comparable trend lines to violence on the right as we see on the left,” Gorka said. “It’s up to people like you. I’m not a political analyst anymore, I’m a counterterrorism government employee, but we have to have an effective, accurate snapshot on who are part of the conservative movement today, because I would say to you I’m not sure that Nick Fuentes or Tucker Carlson are conservatives.”

“If you are lauding Sharia law, if you are saying that there are Muslim states that seem to be better qualitatively than America in terms of freedom and prosperity, I’m not sure that means you’re part of the conservative movement,” he said.

“So if you remove those individuals and you understand that they’re not conservatives, what’s left?” he asked. “Who are the people in the mainstream of the conservative movement … who are saying violence is okay? Hard to find people who aren’t fringe figures.”

Gorka didn’t say Carlson is under federal surveillance, but instead publicly questioned whether Carlson, who is one the most prominent faces of the populist right, belongs in the conservative movement at all.

Left-wing journalist Ken Klippenstein,  no friend of Carlson, called Gorka out.

“I’m an absolutist when it comes to free speech, for the right and the left,” Klippenstein wrote. “Gorka as a government official has no business sticking his nose into whether people define America in the same way he does.”

“And let’s be real: none of this is actually about extremism. It’s about the fact that Carlson, like Fuentes, recently broke with Trump — bitterly — over the Iran War. That’s the real offense.”

The White House was asked directly if it considers Carlson a potential domestic terrorist, and White House spokesperson David Ingle offered a simple response.

“Tucker Carlson is a low-IQ person,” Ingle shot back.

It represents a remarkable turnaround in the last two years for the former Fox News host. Carlson spoke at Trump’s 2024 Republican National Convention, and called him “a wonderful person.”

By April 2026, Carlson was publicly apologizing for having supported Trump at all, and said he was a “slave who can’t make his own decisions.” Trump fired back on Truth Social, calling Carlson “stupid.”

No terrorism label needed.
