Conservative media star Tucker Carlson’s family is joining the Trump administration.
Specifically, Carlson’s eldest son Buckley secured a coveted spot in the new White House administration on Thursday, landing the role of deputy press secretary for Vice President J.D. Vance.
The 28-year-old Carlson joins Vance’s rapidly expanding team after previously serving as deputy chief of staff for Republican Sen. Jim Banks, R-I.N.
His meteoric rise through conservative politics started in 2019 as a staff assistant before climbing to communications director under Banks by 2021.
The younger Carlson now attaches himself to Vance’s office, who is widely seen as Trump’s potential successor and early favorite for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination after Trump’s term limit expires.
Despite registering as a Democrat in 2015, according to The Daily Beast, Carlson has worked exclusively in Republican politics since graduating from the University of Virginia with a degree in government and political science in 2019.
The appointment puts Carlson as a key members of an experienced communications team.
Will Martin, who served as Vance’s Senate communications director, will lead the office while former campaign veteran Taylor Van Kirk continues as press secretary.
Vance’s vice presidential staff has taken shape with several insiders joining in key positions. Jacob Reses remains as chief of staff, while Brian Gray, Vance’s 2022 Senate campaign political director, moves to deputy chief of staff.
The younger Carlson made headlines in 2022 when his father revealed he was present in the Capitol during the January 6 riot.
Tucker Carlson disclosed this detail while defending his controversial Patriot Purge documentary series on the Fourth Watch Podcast.
“I hated what happened on January 6,” the elder Carlson said at the time. “One of my kids was actually in the building when it happened. I was on the phone in real time.”
Buckley Carlson, named after Tucker’s younger brother, joins the administration as his father maintains significant influence in conservative media.
After departing Fox News in 2023, the elder Carlson launched a successful show on X, formerly Twitter, where he continues to attract high-profile guests from across the political spectrum.
The appointment signals the growing alliance between the Trump-Vance administration and conservative media figures as the new administration takes office.
