Conservative star and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson has joined in the scores of commentary surrounding last week’s fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, who was killed last Wednesday in Minneapolis by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent.
And many conservatives and MAGA Republicans aren’t too happy with what Carlson had to say.
In a lengthy op-ed, Carlson surprisingly slammed his fellow conservatives for using the fatal “to score political points,” while also expressing outrage at liberal leaders like Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey for “behaving like children” by ordering ICE to “get the **** out” of the city.
“But it should be secondary to the tragedy of Renee Nicole Good losing her life,” Carlson wrote Thursday in his subscriber-based newsletter.
“The 37-year-old was an American citizen and reportedly the mother of a kindergarten-aged child. Did we disagree with her views on immigration? Probably,” he continued. “But that shouldn’t matter. Her death is a tragedy, regardless of her partisan affiliations, ideological beliefs, or who pulled the trigger. A woman got shot in the face. How come so few conservatives are viewing this story through a human lens?”
Now viral footage of the deadly shooting Footage of the incident showed multiple ICE agents approaching Good’s car as it partially blocked a road asking her to get out the car.
Eventually, an officer identified as Jonathan Ross appeared to shoot her in the head after what appeared to show Good hitting Ross with her car as she tried to drive away.
President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Good engaged in “an act of domestic terrorism” and defended Ross’ actions, with many conservative voices also defending what happened.
However, in Carlson’s view, he argues that “the other side” did just that after fellow conservative activist Charlie Kirk was gunned down in September, including Trump and Vance being quick to blame the “radical left” for Kirk’s assassination.
Carlson argued in his opinion that violence around the world is “desensitizing Americans to violence at home,” adding that as Trump supporters and critics debate the recent U.S. military operation in Venezuela, few have focused on the death toll of at least 75 people.
Carlson frequently praised Trump during his many years as the most-watched host on Fox News, has since broken with Trump over his administration’s ongoing role in the Israel-Gaza conflict, regularly urging on his show that Trump should focus on domestic issues concerning Americans.
Carlson also Americans have grown far too accustomed to “tales of the IDF’s U.S.-backed barbarities” in Gaza, where the Israel Defense Force (IDF) has continued killing Palestinians amid a phased ceasefire.
“If the United States were in a better place, everyone, regardless of their politics, would pause when something like the Minneapolis shooting happens and at least recognize the human tragedy,” wrote Carlson.
“But that doesn’t happen because, compared to the countless overseas killings our government routinely brings about, Good’s death doesn’t seem like such a big deal. She’s just another headline.”
