Former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis are the clear frontrunners in the 2024 Republican presidential primary — and the former political allies are letting loose with millions of dollars in attack ads.
DeSantis hasn’t yet made a formal announcement that he’s running for president, but has been accused of running a “shadow campaign” in early primary states like South Carolina.
A DeSantis-aligned groupd, Never Back Down PAC, launched a commercial attacking Trump on “Fox News Sunday” that asked the loaded question, “What happened to Donald Trump?”

“Donald Trump is being attacked by a Democrat prosecutor in New York,” the ad claims. “So why is he spending millions attacking the Republican governor of Florida? Trump’s stealing pages from the Biden-Pelosi playbook, repeating lies about Social Security.”

The Super PAC also launched an online-only attack ad for NRA members, calling Trump a “coward” that “cut and run” on Second Amendment laws.
Trump promised @NRA members he'd have their back.
But when #2A rights came under attack, Trump abandoned us and sided with liberal Democrats in support of gun control. https://t.co/vvc5QAgR42 pic.twitter.com/MEvwVETiXG

A Trump-aligned Super PAC, Make America Great Again PAC, had previously launched their own ad attacking “pudding fingers” DeSantis.
“DeSantis has his dirty fingers all over senior entitlements like cutting Medicare, slashing Social Security, even raising the retirement age,” the ad claims over footage of a man eating pudding with his fingers.

“Tell Ron DeSantis to keep his pudding fingers off our money,” it ends. “Oh, and somebody gets this man a spoon.”
