Earlier this year, the House Judiciary Committee was investigating the U.S. Justice Department for any selective, politically motivated enforcement of federal laws.
However, former President Donald Trump — following his arrest Tuesday in New York — wants them to go a step further.
On TruthSocial, Trump called for congressional Republicans to “DEFUND THE DOJ AND FBI.”
“Republicans in Congress should defund the DOJ and FBI until they come to their senses,” Trump wrote Wednesday in all caps. “The Democrats have totally weaponized law enforcement in our country and are viciously using this abuse of power to interfere with our already under siege elections.” The Horn News has put the post in sentence case for readability.
In this particular case, Trump is being investigated by state and local authorities, not the U.S. Justice Department.
However, Trump remains under two federal investigations, including the case about classified records. As part of one federal case, he saw his Florida home raided in August by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Some Republicans — like Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene — have been calling to defund the F.B.I. since August.

Trump has become vocal about law enforcement budgets on his TruthSocial page.
Earlier on Wednesday, Trump posted, “The Democrats have weaponized our system of laws like the USA has never seen before. The people, however, see what is going on and they will not allow it to continue. Tremendous spirit, right now, in the Republican Party!”
New York Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan has told Trump’s lawyers to dissuade him from any announcements encouraging potential unrest, but the judge stopped short of imposing a gag order.
Amid fears about unrest, Trump has slammed Bragg for overstating the threat posed by Trump supporters.
“Alvin Bragg shut down New York City, brought in 38,000 NYPD officers, and will spend an estimated $200,000,000 of NYC funds,” Trump alleged on Tuesday.
The New York Police Department reportedly sent a stand-ready order to about 35,000 officers. No one knows how much it will cost, but some observers have described it as “a force larger and better trained than some national armies.”

35,000 NYPD officers are on standby for former Pres. Donald Trump’s arraignment tomorrow, sources told CBS News. Trump has encouraged his supporters to protest the indictment with language echoing the rhetoric he used before Jan. 6, 2021. https://t.co/CBkdenWP2K pic.twitter.com/CZhhJM2zMR
