Some of former President Donald Trump’s supporters expressed disbelief and shock over an endorsement made over the weekend.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy received Trump’s endorsement for re-election despite years of struggle between the two leaders at opposite ends of the Republican Party.
McCarthy had been heavily criticized by MAGA supporters for years for not being conservative enough.
He was recently booed at a Trump rally in Wyoming during the beginning of his speech. “California RINO Kevin McCarthy is a disgrace to the Republican Party, and he needs to resign,” Trump ally and conservative activist Roger Stone wrote in April.
That didn’t stop Trump from giving his “complete and total endorsement” on Sunday.
“In Congress, Kevin is a tireless advocate for the people of Bakersfield and the Central Valley. He is working incredibly hard to Stop Inflation, Deliver Water Solutions, and Hold Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi Accountable for their catastrophic failures and dereliction of duty,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account. “Kevin McCarthy has my Complete and Total Endorsement.”
On social media, some of Trump’s supporters cheered.
But others expressed disappointment in the endorsement.
Radio host and former Republican gubernatorial candidate in California Leo Terrell blasted McCarthy after the news —

Conservative writer Pedro Gonzalez said the endorsement was a worrying sign that Trump had “not learned much after all this time about who is and is not America First.”
He called McCarthy “worse than awful” —
