In January 2019, the Democrats had already begun their presidential primary, following campaign announcements from big names like Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and then-Sen. Kamala Harris of California.
Exactly four years later, former President Donald Trump remains the only Republican to have announced a presidential campaign.
But that may change.

Nikki Haley — Trump’s U.N. ambassador and South Carolina’s former governor — is assembling a committee to explore a possible run, insiders told CNBC after a briefing from Haley.
Haley has also been splurging on digital advertising.
Politico reported Thursday:
Over the last month, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is the only [potential] candidate to approach spending six figures on digital advertising on Google or Meta — which includes Facebook and Instagram. DeSantis’ state campaign has spent $65,000 on advertising on Google platforms since the beginning of the year.
No other candidate has cracked $10,000 on Google since the beginning of the year. Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley’s Stand for America PAC came the closest at $9,800.
Haley — like her potential rival DeSantis — has also become a magnet for donors.
According to CNBC, Haley’s PAC raised more than $17 million during last year’s election cycle. In 2019, Haley’s nonprofit netted $270,000 from a hedge fund manager, according to nonprofit records obtained by Politico.
Haley has yet to announce any plans for 2024. Plus, she told a reporter in 2021, “I would not run if Trump ran.”
However, Haley walked back that comment during a Thursday appearance on Fox News. Haley made that comment “it was before we saw drugs infesting all of our states.”
“It was before we saw our foreign policy in disarray,” Haley added. “So a lot has changed.”

Take a look —
If Haley files to run in 2024, she will become only the second candidate to do so, behind Trump.
Haley has displayed a hot-and-cold relationship with Trump. She reportedly stopped speaking to Trump during the Biden presidency. When asked about her relationship to Trump, Haley said, “Friend is a loose term.”

The former South Carolina governor has been dropping hints even more explicitly than DeSantis.
She told a crowd last year, “No deal is better than a bad deal. And if this president signs any sort of deal, I’ll make you a promise. The next president will shred it on her first day in office.”
